Session 2 - Vocabulary
Session 3 - Homework
The ability to write well is not only important for exams, but is a valuable, life-enriching asset. The MTM Writing School will help your child towards this goal. We believe that everyone is capable of enhancing their powers of written communication simply by learning and practising the basic principles of clear, concise and coherent writing.
Your child will be taught to develop their vocabulary and use a varied and exciting range of words in their writing. A child's choice of words will determine whether the piece is interesting or not. He or She will be taught to avoid settling for obvious words and encouraged to choose words with more colour, thereby adding life and flavour to their writing.

For example instead of:

Tony had lots of toys

Your child could write:

Tony had a myriad of toys

Rather than:

The road was very busy.

Write:

The icy road was incredibly busy.

Your child will be given a piece a written homework every week. We aim to ensure all children develop a habit of writing regularly. The homework will be marked and comments for improvement provided by the teacher.

The fact is pupils who do not learn to speak, read and write fluently
are effectively disenfranchised.
Instead of writing like this:

There was cold in the air as Karen walked through the woods. There was nobody around. There was a sudden noise in the distance. She was afraid.

Your child will be taught to convey the same information in a more interesting way:

There was a chill in the air as Karen scampered through the woods. Nobody was around. Suddenly, she heard a growl in the distance. She froze with fear.

Our courses cover:

Developing ideas, Grammar, Vocabulary, Sentences, Punctuation, Paragraphs, Planning, Spelling, Literary techniques, Handwriting, Speed and more.
